10th October 2022, the Catholic Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi has released the Pastoral statement; This is an open statement offering pastoral reflections on issues of national importance. The statement gives an honest critical analysis of the social-economic and political situation of the country. In this pastoral statement, in solidarity with the vast majority of Malawians who are languishing in deeper and deeper poverty, the Bishops are raising the voice with and on behalf of the poor:
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and the needy (Prov 31: 8 – 9).
