Balaka, March 3, 2025 – In a vibrant display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the Youth Movement of St. Francis of Assisi – Chidzanja Parish in the Diocese of Mangochi embarked on a tree planting exercise on the parish grounds.
Led by their Parish Priest, Fr. Goodson Kanyoza, the enthusiastic group of young people came together to make a positive impact on their environment. Fr. Kanyoza reminded the youth of the significance of caring for creation, echoing the sentiments of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical, Laudato Si.
“As Christians, we have a responsibility to take care of nature,” Fr. Kanyoza emphasized. “I commend your spirit of unity and initiative in organizing this noble task. You are the hope and heartbeat of our church, and your participation in parish activities is crucial.”
The tree planting exercise is an annual event, with different groups within the parish taking turns to contribute to the initiative during the rainy season. This collective effort not only beautifies the parish surroundings but also promotes environmental sustainability and community engagement.
The Youth Movement’s enthusiasm and dedication to the cause were palpable, as they worked together to plant trees and make a positive impact on their community. Their actions serve as a shining example of the power of youth-led initiatives and the importance of caring for our planet.
