Mpiri Parish, Mangochi – The Diocese of Mangochi marked a significant milestone last Sunday, 9th March, with the celebration of Vocation Sunday Launch at Mpiri Parish. The joyous event, attended by faithful from across the diocese, was graced by the presence of the Very Rev. Dave Mambo, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangochi.
The festivities began with a High Mass, led by the Vicar General, which was followed by a series of inspiring talks from esteemed guests. In his remarks, Fr. Mambo encouraged the youth to respond to God’s calling to various ministries within the Church, emphasizing that “as youth, you are the hope of the Church.” He also urged parents to play a proactive role in nurturing the vocations of their children.
Fr. Edwin Lambulira, Vocations Director, of the diocese, highlighted the significance of the Vocation Sunday Launch, noting that it serves as a guiding light for young people to explore the diverse vocations within the Church. Meanwhile, Fr. Paul Rappozo, Diocesan PMS Director, emphasized the importance of Christian stewardship, reminding the faithful that “the Church is now in our hands.” He encouraged the congregation to contribute generously to the Church, particularly on special Sundays such as Epiphany, Vocation Sunday, and Mission Sunday.
In his address, Fr. Rappozo also commended Mpiri Parish for its rich history and missionary spirit, urging the parishioners to become a “missionary parish” to other areas by promoting vocations. The PMS Director also encouraged members of Holy Childhood to remain active in Church activities and to prepare for the upcoming Children’s National Congress in August.
Fr. Christopher Sichinga, Youth Chaplain, emphasized the importance of education, urging the youth to work hard in school and to consider technical training as a means of acquiring valuable skills and becoming self-reliant.
Also, in attendance were Fr. Danasius Malajira, the Parish Priest of Mpiri, and Fr. Leo Mpembedza, the Parish and Deanery Youth Chaplain, who played a leading role in the preparation of the event.
The Vocation Sunday Launch was jointly organized by the Diocesan Youth Chaplaincy, the Diocesan Vocations Directorate, and the Diocesan PMS Office, as part of the diocese’s Jubilee celebrations, themed “Pilgrims of Hope.” The event marked the beginning of a series of activities that will take place in various parishes across the diocese, culminating in the official Vocation Sunday on the Fourth Sunday of Easter.
