With profound sorrow, the Diocese of Mangochi announces the passing of our beloved brother, Fr. Giancarlo Palazzini, who returned to the Lord on 30th March, 2025 in Italy.

Fr. Palazzini, a devoted servant of the Lord, had faithfully served the Diocese of Mangochi for many years, until his recent return to Italy due to illness.

A Life of Devotion and Service

The Rev. Fr. Giancarlo Palazzini, a devoted Montfort Missionary, was born on October 7, 1937, in Sforzatica, Italy. His life’s journey was marked by a profound commitment to serving the Lord and His people.

Fr. Palazzini’s vocational journey began with his first profession as a Montfort Missionary on September 8, 1957, at Castiglione, Italy. He made his perpetual vows on September 8, 1962, at Via Prenestina, Rome, and was ordained to the diaconate on December 22, 1962. His priestly ordination took place on March 9, 1963, at Via Prenestina, Rome.

Following his ordination:

– Fr. Palazzini served as a teacher and formator at the seminary in Redona (1963-1964).

– He then pursued further studies in Canon Law, graduating with a Licence in Canon Law (1964-1966).

– In 1967, Fr. Palazzini arrived in Malawi as a Montfort Missionary, beginning his ministry as a curate at Utale (1967-1975). This was the period Utale Parish was demarcated between Utale I and Utale II parishes.

– He subsequently served as a curate at Mpiri Parish (1975-1976).

– As Parish Priest at Balaka Parish (1976-1984).

– Mpiri Parish (1984-1998) as Parish Priest.

– Phalula Parish (1998-2000) as Parish Priest.

– Namandanje Parish (2000-2002) as Parish Priest.

– Phalula Parish (2002-2012) as Parish Priest.

– And Kankao Parish (2012-2023), as Parish Priest.

Due to failing health, Fr. Palazzini returned to Italy in 2024, where he passed away on March 30, 2025. His life of devotion, service, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel will be deeply missed.

May Fr. Palazzini’s soul rest in eternal joy, and may his legacy of selfless service inspire generations to come. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
