Chidzanja, Balaka – In a heartening display of solidarity and compassion, the President of Caritas Africa, Mgr. Cibambo Pierre Ntakobajira, paid a visit to the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) – Mangochi on March 19, 2025. Accompanied by Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, the Bishop of the Diocese of Mangochi, Mgr. Cibambo’s visit aimed to appreciate the various programs implemented by CADECOM – Mangochi across the three districts under the Diocese of Mangochi.

A highlight of their engagement was witnessing the Cash Transfer Program, a project supported by the Scottish Government through the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF). This initiative provides a vital lifeline to communities in Balaka District, particularly in the parishes of St. Francis of Assisi – Chidzanja, Kapire, Ulongwe, and Mbera.

Under this project, 907 families will receive 100 Thousand Kwacha per month until the next harvest, enabling them to purchase essential food items. Mgr. Cibambo expressed satisfaction with the project, emphasizing the Church’s role in continuing Christ’s mission by supporting the most vulnerable members of society. This initiative is particularly significant in this jubilee year, as it brings hope to those who need it most.
The Cash Transfer Project is being implemented in two dioceses, Mangochi and Chikwawa, with a total allocation of 330 Million Kwacha. This endeavor is a testimony to the Catholic Church’s commitment to serving the poor and marginalized, and CADECOM’s dedication to creating positive change in Malawi.
