The Catholic Diocese of Mangochi has started its Golden Jubilee journey to be celebrated next year, 2023 at it will clock 50 years
In his recent message during the silver jubilee celebrations of five priests and ordination of one priest, bishop of the catholic Diocese of Mangochi, Rt. Reverend Montfort Stima announced that the Diocese of Mangochi will be clocking 50 years of its existence next year 2023 and this call for jubilee celebration.
Bishop Stima asked various group leaders in the diocese to start preparations for this biggest celebration now.
The Fort Johnston Apostolic prefecture modern day Mangochi Diocese was erected on 29th May 1969. It covered the then Fort Johnston and the larger part of Kasupe (Machinga) District North of Shire River. It was entrusted to the Italian Montfort Missionaries. The late Right Reverend Bishop Alessandro Assolari was appointed first Prefect Apostolic on 18th October 1969. The Prefecture Apostolic was then erected into a Diocese on 17th September 1973. Mangochi Diocese covers the area of Mangochi, Balaka and part of Machinga Districts and it has over 20 priests.
