Catholic choirs in the Diocese of Mangochi have been urged to preserve the identity of the Catholic Church whenever they are composing liturgical songs. Speaking at the end of the Diocese choir Festival which took place at Ulongwe Parish on Saturday, 24th September 2022, the Pastoral Secretary for the Diocese Rev. Fr. Medric Mlava reminded choirs that music is a powerful tool for evangelisation hence the need for choirs to be careful and avoid composing songs that can mislead the faithful.
The choir festival was organised by the diocese of Mangochi as one way of spreading the message of this year’s synod of the Bishops. Choirs were asked to compose songs on the theme of synod of Bishops.
St. Michaels choir from Koche parish emerged winner and St. Cecilia choir from Ulongwe parish came at the second position while St. Patricks choir of Mangochi parish took the third position. There were 24 choirs that participated in the final round of the competition.
