The parish Administrator of St. Augustine Mangochi Cathedral Parish, Rev. Fr. Steven Namame, has encouraged children to unite with all children in the world to pray for peace more especially for the war-torn countries. He made the remarks on Tuesday 18th October 2022 during Rosary prayers for one million children in the world which was observed at St. Augustine Mangochi Cathedral parish in the Diocese of Mangochi.
According to the Pontifical Missionary Societies (PMS) National Director, Rev. Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa, the Rosary for one million children is a universal initiative by Catholic Church guided by the Holy Father for children all over the world to pray for peace and unity in the world. The Church mobilises over one million children to pray the rosary for unity and peace.
In an interview, Fr. Mwakhwawa has called upon church leaders, parents, and teachers to train their children to be responsible citizens and participate in building the society. “As Church leaders, parents, and teachers, we need to mentor and train our children to be responsible citizens by taking action at their own level on order to bring change. It is their fundamental right to participate freely and fully in building the kind of world they want. Thus, a peaceful and united world is possible today and in future. Thus, children have to learn to be involved. The diocese of Mangochi is hosting 2022 World Mission Sunday, as such, this activity for one million children praying the rosary has to take place in the diocese of Mangochi. So, the children in mangochi join fellow children in this spiritual exercise.” Fr. Mwakhwawa said.
More than 100 children from St. Augustine 1 Primary and St Monica Girls Secondary Schools joined fellow children in this spiritual exercise by leading the rosary prayers which was also aired live on Radio Maria Malawi.
