Ulongwe catholic parish was largely crowded by many children from different parishes in the diocese of Mangochi. This was a two-day gathering (21st to 22nd January), meant to prepare for the diocesan golden jubilee which will take place in September this year. Many activities took place in those two days. For example, on the day of arrival, these children had different entertaining and sporting activities as well as Bible Quiz. Before these started taking place, each parish had to plant a tree (as one of the activities to be done in the golden jubilee year) right there at that parish. Later, Fr. Joseph Kimu gave a catechesis concerning the jubilee, to enable the children to move towards its celebration with full conscious of what it is all about. On Sunday, the 22nd January, there was a Holy Mass, presided over by Bishop Montfort Stima, of the diocese of Mangochi.
Bishop Stima said that the year of 2023 is a busy because it engages children to preach the gospel. The children have been called and chosen by God to preach to all people, the gospel that does not divide the sheep of the Lord. The bishop commented that children should become the light to other people. He also advised them to maintain their purity as created by God.
The PMS director thanked all parish priests for encouraging the children to come to this particular function. He also called upon other children who are still not willing to gather together with their friends at the church, to arise and follow Christ Jesus. He further asked parents to encourage and give opportunity to their children to take part in church activities so that they should learn how to evangelize to people since they are the future and hope of the Church.
