Empowering Youth Leaders: Mpiri Deanery embarks on Training Initiative

St. Mary’s, Ntaja – In a bid to nurture and empower the youth, the Mpiri Deanery in the Diocese of Mangochi organized a training session for youth representatives from various parishes. The event, held at St. Mary’s Pastoral Centre in Ntaja, brought together about 30 youth leaders, who gathered to acquire skills and knowledge essential for effective youth ministry.

In his welcoming remarks, Fr. Kizito Khauya, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish, emphasized the Church’s vested interest in the youth. “The Church views you not just as future leaders, but as leaders of today,” he said. Fr. Khauya explained that the training session aimed to equip youth animators and executive committees to effectively animate and engage their peers in parish activities.

Fr. Christopher Sichinga, Diocesan Youth Chaplain, elaborated on the rationale behind the training. “This initiative is a testimony to the Church’s care for the youth, particularly in this jubilee year,” he said. “Our goal is to create a more effective and vibrant youth ministry, one that adapts to the changing times and meets the evolving needs of our young people.”

The training session featured presentations, and interactive activities, all designed to foster a deeper understanding of youth ministry and leadership. Participants were also encouraged to develop an Action Plan for the deanery’s youth, outlining strategies for enhanced engagement and participation.

As the day drew to a close, the youth leaders were tasked with conducting fresh elections for the deanery youth executive committee. This democratic process aimed to ensure that the youth leadership remains representative, accountable, and responsive to the needs of their peers.

Also present at the training session were, Fr. Leo Mpembedza, the Deanery Youth Chaplain, Fr. Daniel Piyo, Fr. Francis Kachere, and Sr. Anna Kapinga.

Mpiri Deanery comprises six parishes: Mpiri, Nsanama, Namandanje, St. Mary’s, Holy Cross – Masanje, and St. Ignatius Loyola – Masuku. By investing in the training and development of its youth leaders, the deanery reaffirms its commitment to empowering the next generation of Catholic leaders.
