St. Augustine, Mangochi – The National Catholic Men’s Association (CMA) jubilee celebrations continued today at St. Augustine Cathedral in the Diocese of Mangochi, with a series of captivating presentations from esteemed speakers. The event, which commenced yesterday, has drawn over 1,500 Catholic men from all eight dioceses in Malawi.
Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, Bishop of the Diocese of Zomba, delivered the first presentation, focusing on Catholic Social Teaching. He emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the human person, promoting the common good, solidarity, and the principle of subsidiarity. Bishop Chaima also underscored the significance of the sanctity of life and the Catholic teaching on the preferential option for the poor.

Dr. Matthews Mtumbuka’s presentation on entrepreneurship encouraged Catholic men to venture into small-scale businesses and embrace risk-taking as an essential aspect of growth. “Risk-taking is part of the game,” he emphasized.
Mgr. Henry Chimkanda, CMA National Chaplain, presented on the CMA jubilee theme, “Catholic Men as Agents of Hope.” He highlighted the significance of the Jubilee Year as a time of conversion, prayer, and deepening faith. Mgr. Chimkanda urged Catholic men to become agents of hope by restoring hope to the marginalized and bringing hope to their families.
The day’s events culminated in the celebration of the Holy Mass, led by Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima. In his homily, he encouraged Catholic men to emulate St. Joseph’s virtues, particularly his ability to transform challenges into opportunities.
In their concluding speeches, Mgr. Chimkanda and Bishop Chaima urged Catholic men to manifest their identity, be fully present in Small Christian communities, and be exemplary in their families. Bishop Chaima assured the men of the bishops’ support for the CMA and encouraged them to be men of integrity, bringing their expertise and worth to the Church.
The Bishop Chairperson for Pastoral Commission, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, commissioned the Catholic Men Association (CMA) by presenting them with candles, trees to be planted in their dioceses, and the CMA constitution.
